The Sustainability Leadership Award recognizes a graduate or undergraduate student who contributes to the advancement of environmental, economic, and social sustainability within the UAlbany campus and surrounding community. This student will have demonstrated a leadership role in raising awareness and increasing campus involvement in advancing sustainability. The President's Awards for Leadership recognize and reward undergraduate and graduate students, as well as organizations that have made signficant contributions to enhance the quality of life at the University at Albany. Recipients have demonstrated a variety of accomplishments including extraordinary leadership, service, academic achievement and involvement within the University community.

The Athletes and Recreation Leadership Award recognizes athletes who participate in Division 1 sports, intramurals, or club sports whose leadership has transcended their sport. Recipients will have made invaluable contributions to their team, achieved academic distinction, or have made significant contributions to our university and its surrounding community. The President's Awards for Leadership recognize and reward undergraduate and graduate students, as well as organizations that have made signficant contributions to enhance the quality of life at the University at Albany. Recipients have demonstrated a variety of accomplishments including extraordinary leadership, service, academic achievement and involvement within the University community.

The Women's Outstanding Leadership Award is given to a student who has demonstrated significant leadership and commitment to improving the quality of life for women at the University at Albany. The President's Awards for Leadership recognize and reward undergraduate and graduate students, as well as organizations that have made signficant contributions to enhance the quality of life at the University at Albany. Recipients have demonstrated a variety of accomplishments including extraordinary leadership, service, academic achievement and involvement within the University community.

The Community Service Leadership Award recognizes students who most clearly evidence a service ethic in their citizenship. Students will have demonstrated unselfish involvement at UAlbany or in the surrounding community as they strive to better an aspect of society by dedicating considerable time to worthwhile projects that benefit others. The President's Awards for Leadership recognize and reward undergraduate and graduate students, as well as organizations that have made significant contributions to enhance the quality of life at the University at Albany. Recipients have demonstrated a variety of accomplishments including extraordinary leadership, service, academic achievement and involvement within the University community.

The Spellman Award for Distinguished Leadership recognizes African, Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander and Native American heritage students at the University at Albany who have made notable efforts to enhance the quality of life for the University community. The Award for Distinguished Leadership is presented to students or organizations who meet one or more of the following criteria: Have served as an appointed, elected or situational student leader; Planned, organized or presented successful activities and programs for a student group, club or organization; Functions and is recognized as a leader and role model by peers, faculty and administrators. The program and the awards are named in honor and memory of Seth Spellman, Jr., past dean of the University's School of Social Welfare, serving until 1980. He was also a professor and past chair of the Department of Africana Studies, which he helped establish in 1969. In 1984, Spellman was awarded the rank of Distinguished Service Professor by the SUNY Board of Trustees for personifying excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership and community service.

The Residential Life Outstanding Achievement Award honors individuals who have continued to strive to improve the quality of life for residence hall students. Recipients have demonstrated exceptional leadership and take an active role within the residence hall system. The President's Awards for Leadership recognize and reward undergraduate and graduate students, as well as organizations that have made significant contributions to enhance the quality of life at the University at Albany. Recipients have demonstrated a variety of accomplishments including extraordinary leadership, service, academic achievement and involvement within the University community.

World Diplomats are juniors who develop and lead engagement and community service opportunities for several Living-Learning Communities at the University at Albany. They also administratively support student engagement events. Living-Learning Communities at UAlbany bring together new students, faculty, student leaders and advisors who create a unique experience that helps students become involved and engaged with the campus community.

Community Assistants are seniors or graduate students (often alumni of L-LCs) with a background that matches the Living-Learning Community. They host weekly events and activities for the first-year students to connect with them socially and academically. They assist first year students with their transition into their college experience and consequentially play a role in student persistence and retention.

The Outstanding Senior Award recognizes undergraduate seniors who have contributed greatly to the University at Albany during the course of their undergraduate careers. Their leadership has been demostrated at the University level or in more than one organization. The award is among the highest conferred upon undergraduates. The Justice Award honors a student whose commitment to the principles of fairness and equity has helped to foster justice at the University. This person promotes the appreciation of individual differences and works together to find and express common ground. Recipients will have made distinct contributions toward achieving these ideals. The Middle Earth Award recognizes an exceptional member of the Middle Earth Peer Assistance Program. Middle Earth offers critical peer assistance services to UAlbany students - especially during evenings and on weekends, when other support services are harder to access. Student volunteers are trained by mental health professionals to help their peers address the common concerns many college students face.
